Final Reflection

As I finish off my last assignment in Digital Technology for School Librarians graduate class, I look back and realize I have learned so much in such a small time frame along with many obstacles that came with the COVID-19 quarantine.  But come to think of it, if I had to take a class during the pandemic and schools were shut down...this class is definitely beneficial to take.  Almost every assignment and every lesson I learned this semester has immediately benefitted my classroom this year with remote learning.

Here are a few questions I asked myself upon completion of the class:

Which assignments excited me the most?
I really enjoyed the screencast assignment.  I kind of always knew there was something out there that could do that, simply because a few of my professors of utilized screencasting.  But I guess it never really "clicked" for me to actually search up what it was or how to do it.  So I'm thankful I was encouraged to produced a screencast for one of my assignments.  And it couldn't have come at a better time either.  The pandemic hit at such a time to where everyone had to do remote teaching from their school district.  My district in particular adopted Google Classroom as their main platform to work from.  Thanks to a previous SHSU LMS class, I had to get Google certified!  So the certification and the newfound knowledge from screencasts, I was able to help my fellow colleagues setup their own Google Classroom with little to no problems!  It was super helpful to pair those two together during this time.

Which assignments were most difficult for me?
I don't think I had a particular assignment that was the most difficult, but there were parts of each assignment that would give me trouble sometimes.  Most of the assignments required me to review three or more different platforms that would produce the same product.  For example, there are  multiple platforms for podcasts, screencasts, QR codes, and Infographics.  We were to navigate through each platform given, figure out the ends and outs of it, and then decide for ourselves which one would be most beneficial for our classroom.  I understand the concept of why we needed to review multiple sites, but I did come across a few that were not user friendly and ended up spending alot of time trying to figure it out.  Then ultimately not using it because it was so difficult to maneuver.  So yes, it was difficult, but I'm thankful to have gone through it and understand WHY we did it.

Which assignment will most benefit my students?
I got to come back to the screencast on this one!  I feel like you can do so many things with this.  You can make screencasts to help teachers, students can make them for presentations...and again with mentioning this pandemic, it's helped so much with virtual learning.  Another assignment that could really benefit my students is the Cartoons and Comics assignment.  It allows students to get creative with almost any assignment they are given.  It's just another differentiated lesson that strays away from written notes or powerpoint presentations that are fading to the background, which is a plus.

Annnnd as a last final HooRah to the digital platforms I learned about, check out this ChatterPix I created summarizing my reflection.  Enjoy!
